It's been a while.

Because I'm bored out of my goddamn mind, I may aswell start blabbing on about random shit like I always do.

It's been a while since I made an actual post that was informative in any way, actually, this could well be the first one. A lot has changed, over a month or two. I'm now in a new home, because Equinox had problems with me, apparently. However Onyx has taken to me well, and it generally seems like people are liking me.

I went away for two weeks. I realised how stupid a lot of American people really are.

One situation:

Random Guy: Hey, where are you from?
Me: I'm from Australia
Random Guy: Where's that?
Me: ...
Random Guy (to his friend): Where's Austria dude?
His friend: You mean Australia? That's where Steve Irwin was from!
Random Guy (back to me): Oh, where Steve lived?
Me: Yeah, actually, I live on the same road as him, real small country, everyone knows each other. We spent a lot of time together watching kangaroos hop down the street.

*I walk away*

Now honestly. I have no trust whatsoever in your education system. I did realise, although this may amaze you, the hygiene is much better there. Mainly in the bathrooms are the big differences, but I wont go into that.

I've had quite a few changes in my social life on WoW. I've gained some new friends, lost some old ones, but most importantly, developed on existing ones some more than others. All in all though, it seems like that's just how it works. In fact, I have little to no contact with any of the people I considered to be my friends when I first hit 70. Though, I think I have some friendships now, that wont leave me even if I was to stop playing.

Whatever.

I think the solution is to teach this in our schools: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_vs._Australia

But yeah man, the American education system is fucked up. Don't even get me started on “No Child Left Behind” and all that crap. My mom is actually a second grade teacher. In my state, our supreme court has ruled our system of public school funding unconstitutional. Twice. And yet, that system is still in place.

What’s it gonna take for change? :(

Lol Jez... Our education system doesn't branch out much beyond our borders, but from talking with you many nights... it's obvious that yours and nearly any other countries does. I mean everyone from outside of the US that I know... knows so much about the states. But if you ask most Americans anything about another country beyond maybe Canadia, Mexico, or even Urope, they're basically clueless.

I remember in high school, I was looking forward to my Junior year because that's when we got to take World History. Finally, something that wasn't the start of America and up to WWI. (They tell you every year that they'll get past the World Wars and every year we get stuck on something prior to that... and never quite make it through that.)
My sophomore year, towards the end, my government teacher announced they were removing the World History class from the cirriculum so that they could introduce a new Government class for our NEW standardized tests that we'd have to start taking as seniors in order to graduate.

So in short, my high school doesn't even teach a class that teaches you anything about any other country. I left after 10th grade and went to college... and took many history classes about other countries. THANK GOD. I didn't even have to take the stupid ass test my senior year, because I was in college. Somehow I got around it... :D

I'm sure plenty of other schools in the states are exactly the same way. Not all, because there are private and more upper-class schools that can afford better books and shit... but yeah, most of the country is poor. Hence... most Americans are ignorant as shit.

And there you have it... GG America.

And yet, we're all still here. Sitting in our rooms, playing WoW, and not doing a damn thing to change the things we complain about.

To be fair we are sitting in our rooms commenting on Jezza's blog, not playing WoW ;)

lol, Jes? I'm not sure if that was an insult or not, cause really, it's a compliment. ;)

jag: wasn't meant to be an insult really.

I'm still considering the history teacher thing, but sadly.. not sure how much you can change as a public school teacher considering you're told what to teach.. and that's where the ignorance card is most present... funny how that works.

Yeah, I hear ya. When I showed up to meet with the Chair of the department, I had to lay out my plans for them to be cleared by a committee. The college thing is fairly nice in that there is a lot of freedom compared to parochial schools, where children are easily influenced, but there is still a system of control in place.

Makes you wonder about the history you're gonna be teaching about, and what is filtered from it, ya know?
